greeting from the ambassador

Welcome to the official website of the Embassy of Denmark in Bangladesh.

Denmark and Bangladesh have built a strong and enduring relationship since the establishment of official diplomatic relations in 1972. Denmark has been a longstanding development partner for Bangladesh. In fact, over the past 50 years Bangladesh has been Denmark’s – or “Danida’s - second largest development partner globally. And in recent years, the partnership has expanded to encompass a wide range of areas, including trade and investment, green growth, humanitarian assistance, human rights, democracy and good governance, and climate action.

The signing of the Bangladesh Denmark Joint Action plan on Sustainable and Green Framework Agreement (2023-2028) has further strengthened the relationship between our nations, fostering mutual benefits in sustainable development, green business and growth, food production and safety, and climate action.

For Denmark, Bangladesh is a key partner in advancing sustainable development and tackling global challenges related to climate change. Denmark collaborates closely with Bangladesh, sharing expertise and solutions to combat climate change through locally-led adaptation, reaching out to the most vulnerable communities – by shaping projects that can also be replicated in other climate-hit countries in, such as in Africa.

Denmark has significantly amplified its contribution to enhancing Bangladesh's efforts in areas such as renewable energy, water management, sustainable production, helping to drive the country towards a more resilient and prosperous future. It is Denmark’s ambition to support Bangladesh´s move from a “production hub” to a globally leading “Sustainable production hub”.

Denmark and Bangladesh have also experienced a notable growth in economic and commercial relations. Bilateral trade has seen a steady increase, reflecting the strengthening of our partnership. Bangladesh’s trade with Denmark is at around 200 USD per Dane – which is probably Bangladesh’s highest trade per capita with any country in the world. Today, a growing number of Danish companies have operations in Bangladesh, and Denmark has become one of the leading global investors in the country. This growing collaboration is supported by the Trade Council of Denmark which offers a range of services, such as market insights, business matchmaking, and support in navigating local regulations, to Danish businesses looking to expand in Bangladesh.

I would also like to recognise the Bangladeshi community in Denmark, who are respected and important contributors to our society. Moreover, the growing Bangladeshi-Danish alumni help develop an even greater understanding of Danish culture, values, and innovations – leading to success of the broader collaboration between our two countries.

Our partnership has come a long way, yet the scope for future cooperation continues to be expansive. And I aim to further deepen and expand the strong, positive relationship we've established, ensuring greater benefits for both our countries and peoples.
