Nordic Green Growth Trade Delegation visits Dhaka

From May 19-23, a Nordic trade delegation comprising of 22 companies within green growth and renewable energy met with Bangladeshi companies in Dhaka to discuss the potential for future partnerships. It was the biggest Nordic trade delegation yet to visit Dhaka.

The Green Growth Delegation 2014 was hosted by the Danish and Swedish embassies, and was inaugurated at Westin in Dhaka on May 20 with speeches by Chief Guest H. E. Mr. Amir Hossain Amu, MP, Honourable Minister for Industries, and Special Guest H. E. Mr. Nasrul Hamid, MP, Honourable State Minister for Power, Energy & Mineral Resources.

The Minister for Industries remarked that the country needs to notch up its energy generating capacity through new ventures and by increasing efficiency, and he noted that these initiatives will help towards reaching that goal.

After the inauguration, more than 200 initial meetings were held during a match-making session where interested Bangladeshi companies met with the Nordic companies to match their expectations for a mutually beneficial partnership. The companies then meet for follow-up meetings during the next two days.

The Nordic companies that were part of the Green Growth Delegation had expertise in the fields of sustainability, energy efficiency, handling and treatment of waste water, agriculture and biogas, and maritime equipment. Furthermore, a number of companies were experts in other areas such as electricity, printing on textile, pipe and sewage systems, and within the steel industry.
