Minister Mogens Jensen to visit Bangladesh

The Danish Minister for Trade and Development Cooperation, Mr Mogens Jensen, will arrive in Bangladesh on Tuesday 17 March, on a 3 day visit.  The Minister will be accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Danish Ministry of Employment, and officials from the Danish Ministry for Foreign Affairs.  

The Minister is in Bangladesh to attend the conference “Bangladesh – Framing the Future” A High Level Conference on Ready Made Garments and Beyond. The conference will focus on the learnings from the last two year’s multi-stakeholder cooperation within Ready Made Garments (RMG) and how these learnings may be leveraged for other potential export sectors and in respect of greening of the RMG Industry.

Mr Mogens Jensen will, among others, meet the Honourable Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Her Excellency Sheikh Hasina, the Honourable Minister of Finance H.E. Mr. Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, the Honourable Minister for Commerce H. E. Mr. Tofail Ahmed, the Honourable Minister for Foreign Affairs H.E.  Mr. Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali and the Honourable State Minister for Labour and Employment H.E. Mujibul Haque. The Minister will also meet with senior leaders from other major political parties, civil society leaders, key actors in the RMG industry, Danish companies and beneficiaries of Danish development assistance around the country.

The Minister and his delegation will spend time in both Dhaka and in the field. During their visit to the field, they will visit DANIDA-supported development projects working in agriculture and rural roads in climate vulnerable areas of Barisal.

The Minister will also visit the RMG factory Auko-Tex Group in Gazipur.  At Auko-Tex, the Minister will have a chance to see how a factory, implementing CSR initiatives, is also able to gain valuable business advantages.

This is Mr Mogens Jensen’s first visit to Bangladesh as Minister for Trade and Development Cooperation.
