Programme Officer - Political Affairs and Communication

The Embassy of Denmark in Bangladesh is looking for a programme officer for the political team within political affairs and communication.The Embassy of Denmark offers a unique opportunity for a graduate to work with politics and communication. The Programme Officer will work closely with colleagues in the political team and the Ambassador but will also cooperate with colleagues in the Embassy’s development and trade sections.

Place of work
Embassy of Denmark in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The Embassy is co-located with the Norwegian and Swedish Embassies.

Length of Contract
The contract will have a duration of two years with possibility of extension.

Field of Work
The Embassy promotes bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Denmark within trade and investments, development, political and consular affairs. As a member of the Embassy’s Political Team, the Programme Officer will be engaged in political relations, including human rights, labour rights, good governance, democracy and domestic political issues. The Political Team is also responsible for communication and public diplomacy. In this context, the Political Team works in a very close cooperation with the other teams at the Embassy: Trade, Development, Consular/Visa and Finance/Administration.  The programme officer will be responsible for creating, planning and executing communication activities in alignment with the present Embassy Communications Strategy. This includes assisting colleagues in communication activities such as storytelling and production of visual content for social media.

Specific responsibilities
• Monitor and analyse the general political and human right developments in Bangladesh with specific focus on areas of interest for Denmark
• Produce reports on present issues related to the political, economic and social context in Bangladesh and other issues that are of interest to Denmark.
• Assist the Growth Counsellor in Project Management of the Strategic Sector Cooperation on Occupational Safety and Health.
• Design Public Diplomacy initiatives in order to brand Denmark in Bangladesh in alignment with the Embassy Communications Strategy.
• Assist colleagues in storytelling and production of visual content for social media to ensure professional communication of the Embassy and Denmark’s core Public Diplomacy messages.
• Ensure regular external communication through the Embassy’s website, social media channels (Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn) and the local press.
• Draft press releases; provide input for speeches and interviews for the Embassy and colleagues.
• Any other duty assigned by the Ambassador / Deputy Head of Mission.

- is able to work as a team player with the aim of strengthening the partnership between Denmark and Bangladesh within diplomacy, trade, development and consular matters.
- is willing to take up assignments beyond one’s own specific responsibilities and work with, liaise with and support colleagues from other teams, if needed.
- is able to communicate the Embassy’s work externally to different strategic target groups.
- works with good administrative standards and in line with Embassy guidelines, especially when handling information and in terms of filing.
- follows the security regulations of the Embassy as well as the regime for Occupational Safety and Health.

Essential academic and personal qualifications
The applicant must have

- a relevant Master’s degree
- at least five years of relevant working experience, preferably from a similar position in an international organisation.
- good IT skills including skills in using different social media.
- good interpersonal skills, willingness to work effectively, ability to work independently and proactively in day-to-day work.
- a positive outlook and an interest to meet new challenges and other cultures.
- good communication skills both oral and in written.
- excellent command of the English language in terms of understanding, speaking and writing, including drafting emails in brief and correct English.
