Ambassador's CV


Mikael Hemniti Winther is currently Denmark’s Ambassador to Bangladesh since September 2016. This is the third time he has been appointed as an Ambassador by the Danish Government. Previously he was Ambassador in Thailand from 2011 to 2016, concurrently accredited to Cambodia and Myanmar (until 2014). Before that he served as an Ambassador in Iraq between 2008 and 2010. He was also the Deputy Head of Mission in Vietnam from 2001-2005 and First Secretary in Thailand from 1995-1998.
In a career spanning over nearly three decades, Mr Winther has also served important positions within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Denmark including Deputy Head of Department and Head of Section of Quality Assurance of Development Cooperation; Head of Division of Asia Department; and Head of Section in Humanitarian Affairs, Department for Multinational Organizations and Department for North America & Trade Policy.

Mr Winther has also worked as an Associate Professor at Copenhagen University, Institute for Political Science and at Copenhagen Business School, Institute for International Economics.  He has a master’s degree in Economics from Copenhagen Business School.
Mikael Hemniti Winther was born in London on 5 July 1960. He is married to Ratanawadee Hemniti Winther, a Thai born Canadian Citizen who is currently the Chairperson of AIP Foundation Thailand, an international NGO promoting road safety.
